Useful Information

What is Shea Butter

Shea butter is a slightly yellowish or ivory colored and nutty, smoky scented natural fat extracted from the seed of the African shea tree. It is often referred to by its French name as karite tree, which originally (ghariti) means the tree of life. The tree got this name due to its exceptional healing properties.

In its pure unrefined state, shea butter is also edible and has been used for centuries in Africa as cooking oil, as a waterproofing wax, for hairdressing, for candle-making, as an anti-inflammatory for sprains and arthritis, and to sooth dry skin.

A superior moisturizer, shea butter is used to treat various skin problems including:

eczema
dermatitis
stretch marks
dry skin and hair
insect bites
psoriasis
acne
cracked skin
itchy skin
muscle fatigue and tension
rheumatism
arthritis
sunburns
skin allergies and rashes
scars and dark spots
skin blemishes

wrinkles

A little bit about our famous butters and oils .

Shea Butter: Rich in fatty acids, and Vitamins A and E, shea butter is a moisturizing powerhouse for your skin. It stimulates the production of collagen, improving the elasticity of your skin by helping to regenerate and reduce the effects of aging. It also has anti-inflammatory and UV protection properties. It can even be used to treat minor wounds and burns. And again, it’s safe for sensitives skin and babies.

Coconut Oil: coconut oil has the ability to soak deep into your skin. The medium-chain triglycerides penetrate deep into your skin and promote healing, hydration, and protection from free radical damage. Because of this, many believe coconut oil to be a natural alternative to fighting the aging process and reducing fine lines and wrinkles. Also used in many homemade sunscreens, coconut oil has natural SPF and screens up to 20 percent of ultraviolet rays. And the best part, it’s a gentle moisturizer safe for those with sensitive skin and babies.

Jojoba Oil: Jojoba oil is similar in makeup to sebum, the oil that your skin naturally produces, which allows it to be easily absorbed into the skin. Due to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, it is often used to treat skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, acne, and dry skin.

Sweet almond oil: This great vegetable oil is one of the most used carrier oils in aromatherapy massage, and this is understandable since it has a fine texture, is easily absorbed, and helps to leave the skin soft and satiny smooth yet it is non-greasy and easily absorbed

It is further a great moisturizer suitable for all skin types, helps relieve irritation, inflammation and itching, and is greatly lubricating and because it is not an overly fast penetrating oil, it is a good massage medium to use to help spread the oil and essential oil mixture.

Macadamia oil: It is one of the few plant oils that contains high amounts of palmitoleic acid, which is also normally found in the sebum of man, and this oil therefore has a great affinity to our own skin. It is very emollient, and is therefore great for dry and ageing skin.In aged skins, where sebum production has reduced, Macadamia oil can be of great benefit. Macadamia massage oil has great emollient properties and for this reason is good to include in a base massage oil blend.

Avocado oil: It is a rich heavy oil, that is deeply penetrating and rich in vitamins A and D, lecithin, potassium as well as vitamin E. The crude Avocado oil is green in color as it still contains chlorophyll and is classified as a mono-unsaturated oil.It is often used for clients with dry or mature skins, or people suffering from eczema or psoriasis, and is very useful when treating sun or climate damaged skin that is dehydrated and undernourished as it is said to help with regenerating the skin and softening the tissue.

Grape seed oil: This carrier oil has a fine texture and is almost odorless, light in texture and is easily absorbed by the skin. It has mildly astringent qualities which help to tighten and tone the skin, which makes it useful for acne and other skin complaints. It is rich in linoleic acid, an essential fatty acid quite important for the skin and the cell membranes.Grape seed oil has regenerative and restructuring virtues and has great skin moisturizing properties.

Vegetable Glycerin: Vegetable glycerin is a clear, odorless compound that helps nourish the skin by helping it to retain moisture, and by drawing oxygen into the lower layers of skin providing anti-aging properties. Vegetable glycerin pulls water from the air and creates hydrogen bonds which continuously provide your skin with moisture throughout the day.
